A session can last from around 40 to 75 minutes. We start with a chat about your health concerns. You only need to share what you are comfortable with [but I will need to check that you don’t have health issues which make it unsafe to proceed.] You’ll then lie down or sit (fully clothed), close eyes and relax. I will do some guided meditation using my voice, before playing a sequence of sounds, which I create intuitively for you [I will have checked with you what volumes of sound are right for you].
The instruments I’ll use can include: tuning forks, crystal & himalyan singing bowls, chimes, percussive instruments, gongs, and my voice. If there are particular instruments you do / do not want to be used, I can adjust the session to take care of that.
There will be intentional periods of silence.
With your permission I will also use light physical touch, sometimes placing an instrument on your body.
The effects will be unique to you, but can include muscle relaxation, reduced pain, shifts in inner energy, visual effects, trance, deep relaxation, and emotional release. You might fall asleep, which is perfectly fine. I will bring you round with my voice in a safe and gentle way.
You don’t need to say or do anything except relax and listen. You are welcome to join me in voice work (chanting / mantra / toning), which will enhance the healing effects.
If you have specific body areas experiencing pain, then as long as it is safe I will work directly on those areas.
There will be time for silence and reflection. I might offer you recommendations for self-care using sound.
In sound healing, you are the healer. My role is not to try to ‘fix’ you or control any outcomes, but to hold a safe and sacred space for you, in which you can get in touch with deeper aspects of yourself and ‘hear’ your own inner healing voice.
Almost everyone can benefit from sound healing, particularly if you have:
- Anxiety or Depression*
- Chronic Pain; Fatigue;; Burnout
- Fibromyalgia;
- Arthritis;
- Migraines
- Insomnia
- Complex grief*
- Post-Traumatic Stress*
Is there anyone who should not take part in sound healing?
Sound healing is complementary to, not a substitute for, professional medical care. Any health problems which persist, should be discussed with a doctor.
If you have any of the following conditions: please avoid sound healing:
Epilepsy – unless you have consulted your doctor to ensure you receive the right medication and are in no danger of seizure from sound vibrations.
Pregnancy – avoid sound healing during the first 12 weeks.
Whiplash – sound healing is not recommended until at least 3 days after injury.
Consult your doctor before commencing sound healing if you have:
- carotid stenosis
- a cardiac pacemaker, artificial heart valve, or cardiac arrhythmia.
- a stent
- a shunt
- a deep brain stimulation device (DBS).
* If you are experiencing a severe physical or mental health crisis, or thoughts of self-harm, please do not come for sound healing, but instead contact emergency services or your GP, psychiatrist or counsellor.
